24 Oct New Ranking Algorithm Update from Google on October 22
Just 24 hours after the spam update from Google, the tracking tools and chatter started displaying more volatile fluctuations in the search rankings of Google. These ranking fluctuations in these tools were somewhat moderate when Google released its October 2022 spam update on 21st October 2022, which seems rational for a spam update.
However, the sudden spikes indicated that Google released a new update, which is less likely related to the spam update. It could be that Google may have done the spam update before its release date, maybe we had no clue what we are tracking while Google is playing with all of us, or the tools delayed their reporting by several hours.
Below are the screenshots from the esteemed tracking tools displaying the movement or trend after a day of the rolled out Spam update:
SEO Chatter
There exists a significant amount of confusion from the SEO chatter perspective. Webcasters were of the opinion that they spam update had hit their website rankings but maybe it was this update following the spam update that might be the reason.
Thus, it is not clear how to separate the impact of this subsequent update after the spam update. Or as said before, maybe both are related and it was too early for Google to indicate that the update was over, or the tools were sluggish enough to pick up.
Here are some quick responses from BlackHat World and WebmasterWorld informing about the impact of this update:
“It appears we’ve lost around 10% of our search traffic and then I guess because of this supposed spam update.”
“I lost search rankings plus my new links are not indexing, I’ve tried several times to index from search console to no avail!”
“I’m 70% down on traffic, and this is genuinely terrifying.”
“I lost 90% of my traffic. Whitehat site no black hat method used.”
“My blackhat websites and whitehat websites all lost 90% of traffic, all of them put on same Adsense account, what’s happened?”
“I can understand about some of my sites are just not good enough and just going down. But this site I have is a 3+-year-old completely normal white hat site, no link building by myself, not trying to fool google, nothing. Today I go to Google Search Console and see this. Thank you, Google.”
“Guys I don’t know why my traffic drops suddenly. This is so crazy. 🙁 I ordered some guest posts backlinks, which are clean. I don’t know if it is an update. What is this? My website is 5 months old already and getting 80-100 traffic per day but now it has only 8 ☹”
“My website hit very badly almost 90% traffic dropped.”
Although the spam update might have got over on 21st October morning, the impact from it seems to have occur the next day.
