GOOGLE MARCH 2019 CORE UPDATE IS OUT! NOT THE BIGGEST UPDATE SO FAR

After the release of the core update on March 12, 2019, there are some questions that Google should answer.

Google answers questions indirectly

When asked if the new core update reverses the old core updates, Google responds it indirectly. Their spokesperson provided a scripted reply – according to them they have been improving their algorithms continuously.

They did not say no, it is up to you to interpret their responses. Every year Google is making some core updates, and it is aimed at improving their algorithm.

Did the affected sites recovered from the previous core update?

The data shows that some sites are poorly affected by the previous core updates. It clearly shows that this is not the situation to other sites but those previously affected sites, are still suffering and not doing well in Google.

If you haven’t seen the Sistrix blog post, well you better check it out. It shows that most of the affected domains in the previous core update were also affected by the 2018 updates. You can even get more data from other providers on Search Engine Land and more from Google.

Is it Penguin related?

When Google was asked about the update, and if it’s related to the previous Penguin Updates, they responded that it wasn’t. According to them, it wasn’t a Penguin update, because they do not have it. It is just a simple core update.

Is it just another update?

According to Google, this is not a significant update, it is just another update, and no major changes were done. This is not the most significant update Google has ever done; actually, it is far from it. But for some sites that are affected by this, it sure feels big for them.

Implying that there will be a much bigger update soon. Google does not explain how big the update will be in detail.

Is it related to neural matching?

Again, Google said no it is not related to neural matching. They even checked if there was a neural matching update released the same time as the core updates, but they were none.

The neural matching algorithm covers 30% of search queries and aims to match web pages and search queries. It connects words to concepts. Since voice search is the newest way of searching, being able to understand better its concepts is vital for Google’s user experience. Keep in mind, this method does not depend on link signals, but it uses pages that already ranked.

According to Google, neural matching has been part of their core ranking system, and none of the confirmed core updates coincide with the latest use of it.

Core updates are being carried out by Google even before they confirm them. It was only two years ago when they started confirming the changes and referred to them as core updates. But, it has been going on for a while now.
